After Layou was imprisoned underground Afrain created The Valley of Endless Rain. In this valley his poisoned sons and daughters were trapped. Afrain left one means of getting back to The Clouds Before the Sun for them and tht was to find the five Hikari Crystals. Out of all Afrain's trapped sons and daughters only one was unpoisoned, Mikomi. Baku and her were, together with three others, the first to find the Hikari Crystals, but only Baku was able to go to The Clouds Before the Sun and was healed from his poison.

Having realised the power of the Hikari Crystals the pregnant Lana goes to find them. She goes into labour during the search and when Afrain finds out she has to abandon the child in the valley. However in spite of that Lana finds all five crystals, but Afrain intervenes and guards all five crystals with a guardian.

Lana was exiled to the valley and could only return if she had the crystals, but the guardians made that virtually impossible. Also she noticed that even though she spat out the poisonous fruit, she still started aging and was apparently mortal. She found Mikomi and cursed her. The curse traded Mikomi's immortal life for Lana's mortal life, so now Mikomi was mortal, and Lana was immortal. However the curse also linked Lana's and Mikomi's life together, so everything that the one feels the other feels too, so if the one dies, the other one dies too.

Meanwhile Baku made a prediction to save Mikomi however she hadn't counted on Lana's and her daughter Mariko's interference and so the prediction didn't came true and Mariko, as Lady of the Sendo Tribe invaded the Chi Tribe and made Moyasu find her Hikari Crystal, the Ruby of the Dragon too soon. Pyro Phoenixtruth accepted her as owner of the Ruby.

Baku made sure the Mikomi Tribe found out about the Hikari Crystals when he made lightning create an island in the middle of Hiyou Lake. The Mikomi Tribe led by Lady Hitori found a maze inside. The Mikomi outside were attacked by Mariko's Sendo Tribe troops, but Moyasu helped to save them. Inside Hitori found the Pearl of the Ocean and Mermaid Aquateam accepted her as owner. In the end Moyasu went to stay at the Mikomi village as guest and Hitori quickly realised she had the Ruby of the Dragon.

Kino, the eldest of the Mikomi found a baby in the forest, called her Gaia and raised it for a few days in secrecy. Then he found out that the baby had grown into a child and the child revealed herself to be Gaia Titaniacare. Kino had completed his task and became rightful owner of the Emerald of the Earth. Kino handed his crystal over to Hitori for safekeeping.

By this time Lana had found out that the Mikomi were gathering the Hikari Crystals and she forced Mariko to invade the Mikomi Tribe. Mariko had become aware of her good side and didn't want to invade the Mikomi, but with Lana standing over her shoulder, she had no choice. Telepathically Mariko contacted Hitori and Hitori evacuated the village except for all the soldiers. The rest went to the Chi village for shelter. A fierce battle for the Mikomi village raged and the Mikomi were about to give up when Baku appeared and teleported everyone of the Mikomi out of the village.

While heading back to reclaim their village the Mikomi were met with a fairy called Siren who quickly became in love with the Mikomi soldier Zesshou (who in turn was in love with Hitori). When she found out Siren became jalous and dumped Hitori in a river. Luckily she didn't die and found her way to the rest of the Mikomi at the Chi Tribe village, however Moyasu ran off as Pyro Phoenixtruth had become unsatisfied with Moyasu and asked that she would complete a final task to righfully own the Ruby of the Dragon, and that was to get her Tribe back to live. The Sendo Tribe found the hiding Mikomi, but Hitori used the Pearl of the Ocean to create an air bubble so that they could hide under water.

Meanwhile the Mikomi soldiers led by Nagata finally reclaimed the Mikomi village and when Zesshou and Nagata confronted Mariko she finally decided to turn her back on the Sendo Tribe and Typhoon Gryffinstrength and offered her the Diamond of the Angel. When all the Mikomi and Moyasu had been reunited Typhoon Gryffinstrength revealed that Hitori was the chosen one's leader and that she would guide the Mikomi out of the valley. Typhoon Gryffinstrength also said that Mariko still had to face her test to rightfully earn the Diamond of the Angel. She had to get the diamond itself from the center of a hurricane.

Thanks to a little nagging by Siren, she could arrange a wedding between her and Zesshou. However, still being in love with Hitori, Zesshou couldn't give her the "yes" word and said that he loved someone else. Finally acknowledging that he didn't love Siren made her reveal that she is in fact Serenity Soulheart and she said that Zesshou had earned the Light of the Soul. All five crystals and guardians had now been revealed and Baku led Moyasu and Mariko to see Mikomi in her safehouse and told them why the Hikari Crystals started showing up now and that Baku's goal is to safe Mikomi and take her back to The Clouds Before the Sun.

However Lana, thanks to the help of a tribe-less merchant Chounin had found the Light of the Soul hidden by Siren in a cave. Now Lana and her Sendo troops are going to trade Chounin's life for the rest of the Crystals, which are all now gathered at the Mikomi village.
