Part 19: Killing the Trap

While Zesshou was patrolling the area, he overheard a group of horses coming. He quickly hides himself and Lightning in the bushes. Some 20 horses rode down the path. Zesshou could easily recognize the first one. It was Kyen Koh.

Just some three hours ago a soldier told Kyen Koh a body was found with an arrow in it.

“The Chi?!" Kyen Koh laughed wickedly and relieved, "Impossible! Nobody survived the attack you did under my sister's reign!"

The warrior offered Kyen Koh the arrow, “And somehow, my Lady, this arrow is made like the traditional Chi Arrows... and it's newly carved!!”

The Sendo Lady sighed, “Let me see it.” She took a short look at the arrow and gasped, “What? I can’t believe it. It is actually traditional Chi.”

She put the arrow down and another warrior came walking in. It was the second warrior that Zesshou chased. Because the arrow had come out of nowhere Zesshou completely forgot about the second Sendo warrior.

“My Lady, I have just barely escaped from a deadly chase,” The warrior boasted, “To tell you about what happened at the Hiyou Lake. A structure appeared when lightning struck an island in the middle of the lake.”

“A structure?” Kyen Koh asked. ‘Could this be it? Has the Hikari sequence been put into motion? I must play my part in the religion of our people.’

According to the religion of the Sendo, the enemy would capture the Hikari Crystals. After a heroic battle, which should take months, the Sendo would finally recapture the Hikari Crystals and would ride The Passage of the Rainbow that would bring them to a save place.

“I’m getting worried… We’ve been here for a long time. They must’ve found something already.” Hana mumbled while pacing around.

“They are…”

“…probably fine.” The two triplet brothers said.

Hana turned to look at them. “How can you be sure?”

“If we know our brother…”

“…he’ll proba-“ BANG. Wevlum collapsed on the floor.

“Wevlum!” Wevles cried in agony.

A Sendo Arrow hit his brother in the arm. Blood was streaming to the floor and the triplet brother was in great pain.

“Give up!” Kyen Koh demanded, “Or we will kill you!” She aimed her sword at Hana’s forehead. “Men, get the boats!”

A few Sendo warriors got off their horses and grabbed the boats. “What should we do with these three?” One of the soldiers asked.

“Take them hostage, but keep them here until we return.” The Lady of the Sendo answered, “Oh yeah, just let the guard with the arrow in his arm suffer, don’t treat them. Anyone who doesn’t belong to the Sendo Tribe should perish a painful death.”

Watching from above was Moyasu. She knew the Sendo, but she couldn’t risk a conflict between her and 20 soldiers. That would be suicide. She decided to wait.

didn’t take long before the Sendo troop consisting out of 14 warriors, including Kyen Koh, had reached the end of the stairway.

“Fortunately, I’ve been here once.” Kyen Koh said, “We figured out that the best way to get through this maze is to destroy the those switches. All those switches connect to walls that open and close without you knowing which one. If you kill the trap then all the walls will come down. The only good thing about it is that those walls are, once found, easily broken down with some force. So get to work, men!”

The first switch was destroyed immediately.

Suddenly Kino was facing walls on all sides. He was trapped, with no weapon and no one to talk to. “I’m getting way to old for this crystal search stuff…”

Switch after switch and wall after wall was destroyed.

Even Nagata couldn’t escape from the closing walls. He looked around. “That wall wasn’t there yet last time I checked.” Nagata raised his sword and slashed the wall down. “Wow, that was easier than I thought.”

But his luck didn’t last long. One of the 14 Sendo warriors charged at him. The warrior’s sword banged against Nagata’s sword. Nagata ducked and hit the Sendo warrior in the chest. The warrior fell on his knees and died at the spot. The remaining 13 warriors surrounded him and took his sword.

“It looks like we have another hostage.” Kyen Koh grinned, “How many of you are there here?”

Nagata didn’t answer, but stared at his hands. He just killed a human. In his entire life, he had never killed someone… never… and now he had, and it didn’t feel at all like a victory.

“Okay. We’ll wait here until we’ve persuaded this runt to talk to us.” Kyen Koh turned around, “Commander you might want to use one of your interrogation skills once again.”

The Sendo Commander walked towards Nagata, while spitting in his fists. “My pleasure, my Lady.” He gave Nagata a hit to the jaw.

Nagata screamed.

“That… that voice.” Hitori stopped and turned around. “NAGATA!!”

“I heard someone. That must mean there is at least one other person here, Lady Kyen Koh.” one of the soldiers said, but the Lady didn’t answer. “My Lady? What’s wrong?”

Lady Kyen Koh seemed like her head hurt really badly. She stumbled and collapsed on the floor.

Hitori gasped. She was in a dark room and saw only a window. She turned around and saw Kyen Koh. “They’re coming, Hitori! You must find the crystals! HURRY!!” Then the room disappeared and she was back in the corridor where she had been. “That was…like…my dream…”

Kyen Koh stood up, “I’m okay, you idiot, I just needed a rest.” “But Lady...” “Do you want your head sliced off bit by bit? I’m FINE!!”

Wevli couldn’t believe his eyes. The little girl was keeping the wall from falling down. “Get under it! I can’t keep it any longer!”

Wevli didn’t wait and crawled to the other side. He heard a bang and when he turned around, the girl was gone again.
