Hitori sat on her throne. In her hand she carefully held the crystal Kino just brought to her. He didn’t say much about it; just that he found it and that he wanted to be left alone. From a hidden place, she dug out the blue Hikari Crystal: the Pearl of the Ocean.
“I have you two...” She mumbled while observing them; glowing faintly, “Emerald of the Earth and Pearl of the Ocean...I think I know where the Ruby of the Dragon is, but I can’t just ask the girl...” She saw their glowing was pulsing like a heartbeat, “Where are your sibling stones?” She asked them, “Where is the Diamond of the Angel, and the Light of the Soul? Does Kyen Koh have them?”
It was hard to grasp the fact these stones would be their rescue. That these stones, would open The Passage of the Rainbow; the only way to leave the Valley of the Endless Rain.
Outside the rain had started again. But Hitori didn’t know any better. All her life she had spend in this valley. It rained on the day she was born, and chances would be big it would rain on the day she would die. Rain was something that was too common in this valley, that was surrounded by large cliffs and mountains.
Hardly anyone had ever tried to leave the valley. Those that did, never returned, and were presumed dead.
“There has to be something else, besides this valley.” Hitori looked once again at the crystals; the crystals her tribe didn’t even know anything about, “But what? What does the world out there look like?” She put them in a small wooden chest, and put them away, “And... do I actually have the right to force my entire tribe to leave for the unknown?”
“An unknown one.” A man bowed, “It glows, but if we get closer, the glowing fades away.”
“It does?” Kyen Koh looked thinking, “Are you certain? I don’t want to spend my entire day hunting for another reflection of light.” She didn’t believe her men at all.
With each gem they found, they tried to convince her it was a true Hikari Crystal. What it was meant to do, they didn’t know. What mattered for them, was the reward they hoped to get.
“Why wasting our time with hunting for maybe fake crystals?” A voice walked closer.
Kyen Koh looked up, “Who dares to speak without permission?” She sounded too curious for her own good.
Kyen Koh realized that. She had to be strict, because that was what the Sendo expected.
“Rumors and gossip are filling the camps.” A slender looking woman came forth, “They say our leader is weak.”
“How dare you!” Kyen Koh jumped up, “How dare you questioning my judgments?! Who in Afrian’s name are you?!”
“They call me... well, that’s aside the point.” The woman laughed, which made Kyen Koh get shivers over her back, “Does it really matter?”
This woman... but Kyen Koh realized she couldn’t show fear. One more misstep, and she could lose the loyalty of her tribe! Oh yes, it was that bad. Kyen Koh tried to forget it was happening, but she was on the verge of losing leadership. Her next act would determine her fate.
“What do you want?” Kyen Koh growled.
“You are looking for a missing light.” The woman grinned, “But why looking for something that is lost, while 3 lights are shining brightly... at the Mikomi Tribe...”
Murmuring filled under the men of the Sendo. She realized the men wondered if she had known this before, and if she was somehow afraid of the Mikomi...
“I won’t plunge my men into a battle where it’s uncertain the goal is there.” Kyen Koh said firmly, “What proof do you have?!”
“I know my father is on the side of the Mikomi.” The woman mysteriously smiled, “Through my brother he showed them the 3 lights. You can either trust me, and win the battle... or...” The woman came closer and started whispering, “...you could always act like a chicken... and you know what Sendo do with chickens...”
