Softly, whispering voices appeared. At first they were barely audible, but slowly the hisses became clearer and clearer.
“You poor Chi...” They hissed, “You poor, poor Chi girl... An orphan at this age... but isn’t this your own fault? Aren’t you a Chi?”
Moyasu looked around, not seeing anything but darkness.
“Why are you?” She tried to sound confidant, but her voice was trembling, “What do you want from me?”
“You failed, you failed!” They sang whispering.
The voices were near, but the faces were not. Moyasu wondered if she actually wanted to see those faces. They sounded so... No, it wasn’t right! She wasn’t allowed to get scared! She was a Chi for crying out loud! How dare they scare her! She’d show them!
“Get away!” She tried, “I’m not afraid of you!”
“You should, you should!” The voices now became faces.
Moyasu gasped; trying not to show she was scared. Empty faces; hollow eyes! The hair was dead, the skin was dead... these were dead people talking to her! Her neighbours, her old friends, the council...
“You failed us...”
“I did not!” Moyasu was on the verge of crying, but she couldn’t cry! She was a Chi! A Chi!
“You betrayed us...” The voices swirled around her, “Led the Mikomi to us...ran away during battle...”
“I did not! I did not!” Moyasu screamed, “Leave me alone!”
“You betrayed us... betrayed us!”
“Leave me alone!” Tears welled up in the eyes of the young girl.
No matter how she tried to convince herself, she was still a child. And this child seriously needed someone to help her!
At that moment Moyasu saw a small light. When she opened her eyes, and let the tears drip out, she noticed a small boy. He was about her age, but had reddish hair and orange eyes. He smiled at her, making Moyasu both confused and angry. How dare he laugh at her! But why didn’t he help her?
The moment the boy stretched his hand, the voices hissed back into the darkness. Some remained, trying to fight his light. As if she was enchanted (because in reality she would have never done this!), Moyasu reached out her own hand; hoping he could scare the voices away.
‘Release the truth!’ A young boy’s voice sang in her mind.
At that moment Moyasu’s eyes shot open. Shocked, Hana almost leaped up, but remained at the ground. She asked if she was alright, but instead Moyasu grabbed her head.
“I don’t want to see this!” She screamed, “I don’t want to see this!”
‘Poor girl...’ Hana thought, ‘It must be hard for her seeing this...’
She herself almost passed out herself, seeing the tortured bodies. But the moment Moyasu fainted, Hana put her own emotions aside.
“I don’t want to see this!” Moyasu screamed again, “I don’t want to see this!”
All of a sudden Moyasu’s pendant started to glow. A bright red light escaped from it’s crystal prison, blinding all but Moyasu. But with her eyes locked together, Moyasu refused to see what was going on.
‘Open your eyes.’
The voice Moyasu heard was familiar, and surprised to looked up. She gasped when she saw the same boy as before, washed in the red light.
’You refused to see what seemed to be the truth. You followed your heart.’
Moyasu rubbed her eyes, “Who...Who are you?” She whispered stammering.
‘Pyro Phoenixtruth.’ The boy smiled, and then suddenly was enwrapped by pure blinding light.
The light washed like a sea over the Chi village, bathing it and washing the lie off. Slowly the light died out, as the Mikomi opened their eyes.
“Im...impossible!” The triplet guards whispered, as they looked at the same Chi village. Poles had fallen, and houses were either wrapped by the forest life, or destroyed by time. Was this the same Chi village?
“What lie is this?” A women in the Mikomi group whispered.
“It’s not a lie...” Hana whispered, “It’s the truth...”
At the Mikomi village, the battle was roaring like a dangerous cornered beast. On both sides men and women lost their lives. Hitori fought like a lioness protecting her cubs. Not caring about her own life, she refused to listen to her body, as more and more cuts and bruises took over from her.
“Fight as hard as you want, little Mikomi chieftess...” Lana whispered, “You won’t get out of this battle alive!”
“You seem to be getting eager to see that little chieftess die.” Kyen-Koh mumbled back, “Why don’t you join the battle?”
“My dear Kyen-Koh...” Lana smiled, revealing her teeth, “You are forgetting one tiny detail. I own you.”
The message was blunt, simple, and harsh. “YOU DO NOT!” Kyen-Koh called back.
“Oh no?” Lana smiled innocently yet devilish, “A real chief never does something his heart and mind disagrees with. Yet you started a war, just so I won’t spoil your little secret. If you want to live, you will follow my biddings. I own you, savage one. I own you...”
