The Story

Endless Rain

Part 44: Shame and Guilt

Drops of water spattered on the ground. The let themselves fly down in a suicidal speed, only to bounce back up with the same speed. Their landing was then much softer, as they drowned the soil below with their embrace.

In The Valley of the Endless Rain, plants adjusted themselves to the endless raining. The trees covered the flowers and plants underneath them, drinking most of the water themselves.

Right now, they protected something else. Their movements were silent, but it started to sound more and more like a heartbeat. Softly marching, the Sendo army, moved for a final strike. For Lana, the outcome was clear. Death. Complete death. No mercy, except for one member. She didn't care who any more; just one who had to stay alive so that person could carry the Hikari Crystals. Three were found, maybe even the fourth already! And Lana wanted them; wanted them all! She had send her troops out this morning.

Not to the Mikomi Village, because that was where she already was after Hitori's defeat. No. This time, the target was the Chi Village!

Hana washed her hands in a nearby spring. The rain had just vanished, but an uneasy feeling had taken over. As if something was about to happen. "Kino?" She called the Elder Council member. "I want you to keep a close eye on the Hikari Crystals." She ordered him.

"Sure…" Kino nodded. "But why? Aren't they safe?"

"I just have a weird feeling…" Hana admitted.

"Everybody!" Nagata called out. "We have to move on! If we don't save Baku, terrible things will happen. Don't ask me what; I don't know. But trust me, this is now a war between Gods!"

Hitori barely heard what he was saying. Shuhan… he was dead! How was that possible! They saved him! They saved them all! He even saved her when she was about to get killed!

And… and… he even asked her to marry her! Her greatest love, asked her to marry her! How could he be dead?! The others refused to speak. Why? It must mean they were hiding something.

"Awe, you poor thing…" Siren patted Hitori and landed on her head. "Don't you remember how dear Shuhan died? Well… you know what they said: you were the only one with him when that happened… there's only one conclusion left…"

With those words, Siren floated back into the air and landed on Zesshou's shoulder. "Zesshou!" She embraced his ear. "My sweet Zesshou! Let's sneak off and get married!"

"What?!" Zesshou blurted out. "No, I can't! Lady Hitori might need me!"

"Hitori, Hitori, always Hitori!" Siren put her little hands in her little side. "You made a promise mister! And you will marry me!"

"If you will stop being so obsessed, I will keep my promise!" Zesshou yelled at her. "Lady Hitori always told me that the tribe's welfare will go before personal welfare. I will keep my promise. Not because I love you, but because of the tribe!"

There, it was out! Zesshou waited for Siren's reply.

However… Zesshou noticed that Siren hadn't heard him… at all!

Hana kneeled before a broken Chi shrine. She folded her hands together, and started praying. "Afrian, father of us all… please protect us… protect Hitori. I can't put my finger on it, but I just know something terrible is about to happen!" Then her thoughts went to Moyasu. How was the little girl doing?

"Hana…" Hana looked up, and saw two spirits. "Don't fear us…"

"Who… who are you?" Hana gasped.

"I'm Gaia Titaniacare." A slender yet elegant woman smiled.

The smaller girl bowed. "And I'm Mermaid Aquateam."

"You are not alone Hana." Gaia smiled again.

"Trust your heart." Mermaid giggled. "Trust your heart, and protect your tribe…"

Hitori looked at the ground. The words of Siren still rang through her ears. She was the only one who was with Shuhan at the moment he died. Serenity Soulheart|Siren] was right, there was only one conclusion left.

Hitori stepped up, and walked into the forest. 'It's true…' She thought. 'There is only one conclusion left… I must leave the tribe before I will betray them as well.'

'Afrian punish me. I killed the man I love. I killed Shuhan…'
