Hitori stood in the musty, dark armory holding her fist tightly to her chest, trying to keep her heartbeat down.

“Lady, I did not know you meant to go out to fight yourself.” Hana said sadly as she fitted Hitori with armor

Hitori did not speak. She was trying not to think about the battle, but her heart would not stop beating.

Nagata was our only hope for a battle tactician.” Hana continued.

Hitori still did not speak, but Hana was finished anyways.

“Here is Shuhan spare sword.” Hana said handing Hitori a long heavy blade.

Hitori nodded to Hana, then headed back up the clay, spiraling, stairs.

Hitori pressed her head firmly to the back of the throne and stared longingly out the window as if she were waiting for a miracle. She choked back her tears. She had to be strong. She was now the leader of her people.

‘Am I a fool?’ She thought secretly.

She looked at her leather boots, which were faded from the sun that seemed to never shine again. Her eyes burned, and the lump growing in her throat felt as though it would tear through. Hitori dropped Shuhan’s heavy sword, which clattered loudly, and cried out a deep sob.

“I will never fill the boots of great Shuhan!” She felt a warm hand on her shoulder.

“Do not cry, Lady HitoriHana comforted, “There is still hope!”

“Oh, Hana, do not call me Lady Hitori.” Hitori smiled, “I will always be the same person, and your friend, no matter where—”

But Hitori cut off. The doorknob on the other side of the room distracted her. It was twisting and clanking slowly. All eyes in the room were now watching it. Hana picked up Shuhan’s sword and rushed quickly to the door. Hana disappeared into the dark doorway for only a short while before she returned with a woman’s arm in hand. The woman yanked away from Hana. She had long dark hair, hazel eyes and a slightly crooked nose, which only added to her exotic look. She glared at Hitori with such a wild look in her eyes that Hitori let out a gasp.

Aiko!” She shouted, but before she could charge towards Hitori, Hana stopped her

“This is Lady Hitori! She has taken the throne for the Mighty Shuhan!” Hana corrected, giving the woman’s shoulder a jerk

The woman stared at Hitori, then announced proudly, “I am Kyen Koh! I live in the forest with my father, and we are enemies of the Sendo Tribe!” She lowered her voice so it no longer thundered loudly around the room, “I’ve come to offer my services to those here who suffer from the Sendo.”

Kino spoke, “How can a savage girl of the woods help the tribe of Mighty Shuhan? Do not trust her Lady Hitori! She could be an assassin from the Sendo Tribe!”

“Be quiet, please.” Hitori squeaked, “Let her say what she has to say.”

But Kyen Koh growled like an animal at Hitori. She spoke and quickly and unclearly “You fool! Do not be so trusting! Have you ever met me before? What if I were from the Sendo?”

Hana gave the Kyen Koh’s shoulder another jerk, more violent than the first. The woman took a deep breath to calm herself.

“I witnessed your leader being captured. ”She said, returning to her normal voice.

“Where is Shuhan?!” Hana shouted, wheeling Kyen Koh around.

Kyen Koh pulled away from Hana’s grasp “Unhand me!”

She pulled a dagger from her sleeve and threatened Hana with it. Nobody moved. Hana glared at the animal-like woman, sliding Shuhan’s sword across the ground making a loud scraping noise. Kyen Koh put her dagger away.

“I will take whoever will come with me to Shuhan. He lives, I’ve seen it.” She kneeled down in front of Hitori.

A man, who must have been Kyen Koh’s father, stepped into the throne room. He shared Kyen Koh’s exotic looks and beaded clothes

“My father was once the master tactician of the Chi Tribe, he will fight along side you to avenge his wife who’s life was stolen by the Sendo Tribe.” Said Kyen Koh with such might and volume that her voice reverberated off the clay walls.

Kyen Koh’s father nodded, “Should we die in battle, may it not be in vein.” He sang.
