Part 71: A little bit of help

Mikomi took a big sigh. She was so old, so tired, yet no one seemed willing to allow her to die. It would be for the good of all of them, why didn’t they acknowledge that? Her eyes turned to Moyasu. She noticed that the girl’s arm was injured.

“What happened to your arm, child of Chi?” She asked Moyasu.

Moyasu shook up. She didn’t really had any attention to what was happening. She looked at the divinity before her and almost didn’t dare to answer. Addressing a divinity wasn’t any part of the etiquette lessons she had. Addressing a tribe leader of a council member sure, she knew how to handle that, but a divinity?

“What? My arm? It…it was injured over a week ago your Divine Holyship…ma’am.” She stumbled as she bowed deeply before her.

Mikomi smiled, “You may just call me Mikomi.” She replied, “Come here, let me take a look at it.” Obediently Moyasu walked over to Mikomi, and Mikomi examined her injured arm, “There, it doesn’t seem to be that bad. It’s almost healed already. You should start using that arm again and it will be all better in no time at all.”

Somehow being so close to Mikomi made Moyasu feel warm and secure inside her. It was like she could feel the bond that Mikomi had shared with her sister Chi. Somehow that bond reflected on Moyasu, since she was a descendant of Chi.

Mikomi?” Moyasu started, “If the Chi Tribe wasn’t supposed the be destroyed at all, then why can it be so that my quest is to bring my people back?”

Mikomi smiled again. She had anticipated that the question would come. It was the whole reason why Baku had told Moyasu to come along on this trip.

“Listen carefully child of Chi. As you said, the Chi Tribe wasn’t supposed to be destroyed at all. Therefore the spirits aren’t ready yet to go to the realm of the dead. That one thread ties them to this realm, and it is that thread that makes them wandering ghosts. Your task in this is very simple, but you need to find it out on your own. You must bring them back to life, in whatever realm that might be, by using the truth.”

Moyasu stared a her. How was this knowledge going to help her? Her people were dead, game over, end of story. What force in the world could bring them back to this realm? How do you kill people who are already dead so they can go to the realm of the dead?

Mikomi placed a frail hand on Moyasu’s shoulder, “Hold that thought and find a way.” She let go a deep sigh and fell back against the back of her chair again. She was so tired. If she could just take a nice nap. An eternal nap would be nice. “Please.” She muttered with her eyes closed, “Please give me my eternal rest.” And with those words she fell asleep.

Sasaeru, who had been silent all this time, stepped forward until he was in front of the sleeping divinity. He took a knife from his belt and raised it in the air. He was ready to make an end to Mikomi’s suffering, but was stopped by Baku, who jumped at him and removed the knife from the young man’s hand.

“What are you doing?!” Baku yelled at him, demanding to know the reason why Sasaeru had almost killed his beloved sister.

“Her death benefits us all.” Sasaeru said with a shrug as he stood up, “She wants to die, and her death will help us stop Lana, isn’t that the entire point of this madness?”

Baku and Sasaeru stared at each other. Baku’s eyes were filled with anger and sorrow, while Sasaeru’s were filled with honesty and contempt. Finally Baku gave in.

“All right.” He said, “I’ll give you a month to get all the Hikari Crystals and open The Passage of the Rainbow. If it isn’t done by then, then…I’ll…” Baku took a deep breath before he finished his sentence, “Then I’ll kill Mikomi myself.” He stated, “In the meanwhile, I’ll stay here to care for her.”
