"We follow the sun,

as the journey has begun.

Paths be guided by Afrian,

my heart's adventure loved by man!"

It sounded like the most obnoxious, off-key and horrible song ever invented... but somehow, it gave Hitori comfort. The Mini-Sirens were on a field trip, as if they had never been on one before. The first three were energetic and bouncy; completely hyper on sugar. The five after them were a lot more calmer, even though they did keep on chattering. The 9th Siren was grumpy; as if she didn't want to show the world she was actually enjoying this trip. The last Mini-Siren was dragging behind, almost asleep and tired beyond words (obviously a lack of exercise).

Hitori, however... felt relieved. As if a burden had fallen from her shoulders. She honestly didn't mind if she had to stay here a little bit longer... even though she missed Hana and the others. Her life had been hectic... but it was hers nonetheless.

"Oh well..." She said a bit disappointed. "I'd better find a way out of here... if Lana gets the Hikari Crystal..."

"Then Layou shall be free!" Mini Siren number 1 popped up.

"And Layou is mean!" two others sang.

"And we don't want that." Hitori smiled. "Layou was locked up for a reason."

"Layou will steal all the candies." Mini Siren number 6 huffed.

"And Layou will make all flowers stink!" Mini Siren number 8 raised a hand.

"Life is all about priorities..." Hitori sighed. "Can't let him take the candies." The Mini Sirens nodded in agreement. "And if he'd steal the stars, stop the rain, floods the valley... that's just a second drama."

"Indeed!" The Mini Fairies agreed.

Hitori walked on and the fairies engaged into another song. 'I'm glad they are with me; it makes me feel less alone. I would have probably gone crazy if I'd been alone. Then again, going crazy seems to have been my daily routine for the past few weeks. This peace and quiet... no responsibilities... I could just... camp here. Just for a while.'

"You know you don't mean that." The sleepy Mini-Siren on the top of her head mumbled.

"Of course not." Hitori smiled. "But a vacation... would be nice. Don't worry, I'd never abandon my friends and tribe. Sometimes I wished I could, but I'd be no better than a Sendo if I did so. That, and I wouldn't be able to live with myself."

"Hi!" "To!" "Ri!" Three cheerleading fairies spelled. "From the" "Mi!" "Ko!" "Mi!"

"Aren't you worries about your sisters who stayed behind with Lana?" Hitori suddenly wondered.

The Mini-Sirens shook their big heads. "They are having fun!"

"Poor Lana." Hitori sighed. "I honestly feel sorry for her."

The little girl looked towards the old man. Old? No, he was not old. He just looked old, because of the grief he had faced. Alika felt sorry for the man, whom she had learned to be her father. But would he remember her? Tebok said he wouldn't, but in her heart, Alika just knew that if this man was her father... he would recognise her. He had to! He was all she had left...

Chounin turned around, seeing her bright innocent eyes. At first he was confused; why was there a little girl near his cage. She didn't look like Sendo; she looked... pure. A pure heart amidst the tainted souls. Could that be possible? No, she was here and no one had harmed her; she must have been Sendo!

Could it be the Sendo separated their dark motives from their children? Of course not; they were tainted by birth. Stealing, dishonesty... it was probably fed with a spoon to them.

Chounin wondered what to do; should he tell her to flee? Warn her for the corrupt hearts of the Sendo? Or just talk to her; trying to find out why she was here? Then again, if he tried to send her away, the guards would probably find that out and capture her. And if she would be captured... they never showed mercy to women nor children. Why would they be kind to her?

Alika just stared at the man. Why didn't he speak? Was this a sign he recognised her? She knew it! He had to be her father! Her faint memories; only a shade... but the broad shoulders, the kind feeling... there was no doubt in her heart; this had to be her father!

She stretched out her hand; trying to reach out for her. Chounin had the urge to reach back, but a split second movement would be enough to alarm his guards. The girl would be tortured before death would find her.

No matter how much he valued his own life... he could not doom this one innocent child.

Hitori looked at the sky. It was odd; the sky was in a wonderful pinkish colour. Hitori wondered if that was the colour of the sky in the Valley of Endless Rain. Only on rare occasions the rain had stopped or lessened; but what she had seen on those moments... was that the true colour of the sky? The Mini Sirens were dancing around her, until they proclaimed it was time for a pick nick. A red with white blocked plaid was put on the floor, but it was too small for Hitori to sit on. It was the size of a pillowcase; perfectly sized for the 10 Mini-Sirens, but enough for Hitori's... well, maybe fingers or toes? She kneeled next to them, seeing a mini basket appearing, filled with mini sandwiched and a mini pot of tea. The teacup she got handed was the size of a thimble and was empty in less than a sip.

The way the Sirens held this pick nick... it was unlike she had ever done before. "Can we go now?" She asked a tiny bit impatient; sitting here and watching them sip tea...

"No, no!" The Sirens forbid her. "Now it's time for games!"

Chounin stared at the girl stretching her hand. He had this growing urge to reach out back; to talk to her... but he couldn't. He couldn't doom this child. So instead of that... he turned his back to her. It broke his heart to do this; wishing he could explain or even apologise... but he couldn't. He could not allow anything to happen to this child. Even though he did not know her, she had reached out to him. It had given him a slight sense of responsibility for this child.

Alika looked at the back of the man. A dark pain crawled into her heart; he did not remember her! How could he not? Did he not recognise her eyes, her face, her hair? Was the Evil Witch's Hitori spell that strong?

With little droplets in her eyes, Alika turned away from the cage and sneaked back to the camp. Crawling back into the tent and her bed, she could not help but feeling good she had foiled the witch's plans by stealing the gems.

Slowly, the little girl's pure heart grew a little spot of black....

Hitori watched the little Sirens playing games she had never seen before. Some seemed fun, but the balls they used were too small. One touch with her finger would result in a catapult launch or the destruction of the balls. Hitori released a yawn, closing her eyes... but when she opened them again, the Sirens were looking ready to go again! Suited with backpacks, high school uniforms or scouting clothes, they seemed to be... waiting?

"When will we go again?" One asked impatient.

"Sorry, sorry!" Hitori jumped up. Why was she even apologising? Just a second ago, they were still playing games!

The walk continued for what seemed to be hours. Hitori observed the surroundings; a pinkish sky; soft orange and terra cotta rocks... and no trees whatsoever. It seemed like and empty place, this area where the battle of the soul took place. She expected the life in this area to be more... alive and energetic, like Siren herself was. Could it be, because the Sendo owned the Hikari Crystal... this was the result? A still light, but dry and dying land... would darkness grasp it soon?

Was this the fate that would befall every Hikari Crystal that fell into the hands of death and darkness? And what would it mean for the Guardians of the Hikari Crystals. Siren hadn't been seen for days, would she have vanished along with the light of this crystal?

"You've got to be kidding me!" Hitori exclaimed, running forward. "Lana, how did you end up here?!"

"So, the squirt has been walking around in circles?" Lana smirked, folding her arms.

"I did not!" Hitori exclaimed, but she did turn red. What if she indeed had been walking around in circles. "I couldn't! I kept on following the sun!"

"Doll, you've hardly ever seen the sun in your life." Lana replied wickedly. "Didn't you know that the sun never stands still, and that it moves around? The sun played you, you fool!"

"That's not true!" Hitori screamed. "The sun does not move!"

"Sure it does." Lana grinned. "I'm a daughter of Afrian, I should know."

Hitori balled her fists in frustration; how could she have been such a fool? To say the daughter of Afrian did not know how the sun acted...

The Mini Sirens around her started to look sad and worried. "Don't lose your glow!" One of the Sirens whispered.

"Trust your heart!" Another tried.

"Have faith in your own light!" A third whispered.

Hitori heard the words, but couldn't react immediately. A wave of embarrassment washed over her; how could she have been such a fool!?

Lana observed the Mikomi Chieftess, with a diabolic smile painted on her face. "There we go..." She grinned. "Allow yourself to be consumed by darkness... allow yourself to become just like me!"
