The Story

Endless Rain

Part 8: Mystery man

Nagata stood there, in the middle of the [Chi Tribe|Chi[ village. Houses were burned down, dead body’s lay everywhere. The only hope for the Mikomi Tribe was now lost. Lightning tried to cheer Nagata up a bit. Like he wanted to say, “It’s not over yet.” Nagata took the bridles and mounted. Silently they walked away.

Hitori was nervous. She knew she was going to die. Was she ready? Hana stood at her side.

“You made the right choice Hitori. I think Shuhan would have made the same choice. Rather fight in a honorable battle, than serve as slaves for those filthy Sendo’s.” Hana said.

Those words made Hitori feel better. First the whole tribe hated her, but now she was a respected leader. All of the remaining Mikomi’s had surrounded the Sendo village. So what were they waiting for? Hitori had send scouts ahead. Maybe there was a way to make a surprise attack on the Sendo. Hitori was waiting for their return.

Zesshou closed his eyes. He ruined the only hope left for the Mikomi Tribe. Any moment they would shoot those flashing bolts in him and then, he would be dead. Then why wasn’t he afraid? Maybe because he knew he would have died anyway. He was prepared; he knew what he had to do.

“Hey, you newling.” Aiko said to one of the man pointing a crossbow at Zesshou’s head, “You take care of this little business.”

Zesshou was grabbed by that one man and dragged away into a tent while Aiko and her other men walked away

“I’m not afraid to die you know.” Zesshou said.

“I wasn’t planning on killing you, Mikomi child.” The man said.

Zesshou was confused. He wasn’t going to kill him?

“This may be confusing to you, Mikomi child, but I am not your enemy. I am not a Sendo. Look, here are weapons. Take them to Shuhan-sama and the others.” The mysterious man said while giving Zesshou some swords

“Who…who are you?” Zesshou asked

“There is no need for you to know my name, Mikomi child. Just tell Shuhan-sama, that this is a gift from an old friend.” With those words he walked out of the tent, into the rain.

Nagata was riding through the woods, thinking of anything he could possibly do. He kept on thinking about a story Shuhan had told him once. He felt that he answer was somewhere in that story, but he couldn’t remember.

It was something about a badly wounded man that had been found in the woods one day. Shuhan had ordered the tribe to take good care of him. The man was grateful for their help, and repaid his dept with helping out in the village until he was fully recovered. After that, the man and Shuhan had become real good friends, but the man’s heart did not lie in the village. It lay in the world out there, so he left. What did this story have to do with the answer of the Mikomi Tribe’s survival? Suddenly Nagata knew it. He went into a gallop and ran away. He knew what to do now.

Scouts came back with devastating news. There was no possibility for a surprise attack. Hitori sighed, took a deep breath and gave the signal to attack. From all around, the Mikomi Tribe stormed into the clearing, to the Sendo village.

Zesshou quickly walked back too the prison where Shuhan and the others were held captive. He threw the swords inside and came in himself.

“Well done Zesshou, you did a great job. Did you encounter any problems?” Shuhan asked.

“Problems!?” Zesshou fumed, “PROBLEMS!?! I almost got killed out there!!”

“Hey, I was only asking Zesshou.” Shuhan said

“However there was one man out there who helped me. He didn’t say his name, but he said that these swords were a gift from an old friend.” Zesshoucontinued.

Shuhan blinked at the young boy. And, suddenly, he started to laugh. “An old friend eh? I knew he would never let me down. I’ll explain it to you when we get out of here Zesshou.” Operation escape was now in motion.
