"I don't want to. Not any more."

"I know that is a lie."

"And I know that you want to believe that."

He embraced her from behind. "You can't quit now. Not when you're so close."

"My body can't hold on much longer." She admitted. "And my mind is going crazy. When I'm with you, I finally have some peace."

Together, they walked through the village, holding each other's hand. "You can't leave them behind."

"I have already left them behind." She whispered. "When I was chosen for the battle. It wasn't my battle. But I had to fight it. And I lost."

"You won the battle." They looked at the people they both knew so much. "I don't understand."

"I can't find my body." She didn't reply to him, as if she hadn't heard him. "I can't return. Even if I wanted to…"

"So, you want to give up?"

Silence followed. "Yes." She then said, without hesitation. "I do. I want it to be over."

"Your friends? Your family?"

"Hana is the true leader of the Mikomi." She smiled. "I never said it to her, but she is. I can't be The Key and the Lady. I can be only one."

"But if you can't be both…"

"…then I chose to be neither."

He took her to a council meeting, where men were arguing about the missing tribe members. She heard them yell about her vanished body and how to deal with, which many now referred to as, the traitors.

He looked at her, but her face showed no remorse or regret. She just listened, but didn't seem to hear them. She didn't care any more. She liked the way things were now. She didn't want to go back. She wanted to stay.

"So, Hana is now the new Lady of the Mikomi?" He saw her nod. "Then how does she know that?" She shrugged. "You have to tell her. You have to tell everybody. They won't accept her if you won't tell them."

"She'll know…"

"She won't know."

"She'll know…"

He realised that it had no use to keep her here, with the bickering members. He wanted to take her to who she loved; who she lived for, but he didn't where to look. He only had eyes for her… and thus lost sight of the others.

"You're not her, are you?" He then tried. "You're not Hitori. You're The Key."

"We are one. She accepted me. She welcomed me."

"Hitori would never give up."

"She only has one wish. She wants to be with you. But her voice is weak. She's tired."

"You have to take her back to her body." He demanded. "If you won't, she'll be lost!"

"The Key can unite the Crystals. The Key has to carry the burden. She didn't want to chose between her tribe and her duty. She didn't chose."

He took her outside, refusing to accept her answer. "If you take her back, she can rest."

"She doesn't want to rest. She wants to be with you."

"Give her back control!"

"This is her wish. She wants to be with you."

He was at a loss, if you couldn't convince The Key to return Hitori to her body… or was it perhaps truly Hitori's wish to die like this? He couldn't gamble; there was no time to lose. Each second that passed, meant death would get a grip on the one he loved so much. And even though he too wanted to reunite with her, he knew his duty to his former tribe.

The Passage to the Rainbow had to be opened. The Mikomi had to flee the Valley of the Endless Rain.

And to save his tribe, he had to save the love of his life… realising he could not be reunited just yet. He had to push away his personal feelings, like she had pushed away her own. She had taken in an essence that consumed so much of her will, her energy, her life… An essence that only lived to reunite five magical crystals; not caring if it killed its host or not.

Yet somehow… it seemed that this essence seemed to care more for its host's desires, than it's own.

Could it be, that Hitori was more in control than he thought? If she was in control… than he had one more shot.

"Don't you want to meet her?" He said, looking at a little girl before them, who played with her dolls on the sandy ground. "Don't you want to get to know her?" The Key did not respond. "I know Hitori wants to."

"Taraji…" She whispered.

"Yes, that's her name." He smiled. "But if you stay with me, you won't get to know her." Silence. "Don't you want to see her play? You can't play with her if you stay with me."

"Taraji…"

"Remember that name." He instructed her. "You have to tell Hana about her. You have to tell Hana you want to meet her."

"I can't tell her." She replied. "And I can't meet her." He looked at a loss. "But she can. She can if she… But if she meets her…"

"Let her decide." He tried. "But we can't deny her that light. She's worth the light."

She stood there, watching the playing child, who wasn't aware of the ghost looking at her. "She can't be both." The Key finally replied. "I have to decide for her. I have to tell Hana… she's the new Lady of the Mikomi…"
